Dutas capsules are used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH or enlarged prostate) to shrink the prostate and reduce the risk of urinary retention caused due to enlarged prostate glands. Improving symptoms of BPH with this medicine also reduces the need for surgery. This drug is also used to treat male pattern hair loss known as androgenetic alopecia it increases the hair growth and prevents further hair loss from all areas of the scalp, including the front. This can reverse balding in men with mild to moderate hair loss, but does not restore hair that has been lost for a long time. This medication is not used to treat hair loss in women.
Dutasteride is the main active pharmaceutical ingredient present in Dutas capsules. 5-Dutasteride is an alpha-reductase inhibitor, used to treat enlarged prostate gland in men. Women, children or adolescents must not take it.
Dutasteride is 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It specifically inhibits the action of the enzyme 5?-reductase, that converts the male hormone testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), it is the androgen that is primarily responsible for the development and growth of the prostate gland. DHT is also found in hair follicles this medicine also reverses the balding process as it blocks the build-up of DHT in the hair follicles of the scalp, allowing the hair to grow normally.
